Singular and plural forms

Singular and plural forms in Livvi work quite similarly to English, the only exception being having to think of the cases of the word as well.

The T-plural

The T-plural in Livvi is essentially equivalent to the English S-plural (juna = train, junat = trains), however it is not used in all situations.

- After numbers you use the partitive (kaksi junaa, two trains) instead of the T-plural ("kaksi junat").
- When you mean "many" or "some" rather than all, the plural partitive (Syön mansikoita “I eat (some) strawberries”) is used instead of the T-plural (Syön mansikat “I eat (all) the strawberries”)
In existential sentences we generally (not always!) use the plural partitive (e.g. Talossa on vieraita. “There are guests in the house”).
- When you’re forming a negative sentence, the object will be in the plural partitive (e.g. Syön omenat “I eat the apples” vs En syö omenoita “I don’t eat (the) apples”).
